Meet Bill Price - an industry leader for 40 years
Bill Price is a third generation wood floor finish contractor who learned his
trade in apprenticeship with his family working after school and weekends from
the age of twelve. After thirty years of running his own contracting business
his career changed direction. Although still working in the same industry, he
moved into the finish manufacturing end of the business while working first as
a sales & technical representative for Glitsa American, Inc. in Seattle, then
marketing manager and product development manager, and finally as president of
two national finish companies, Preferred Products, Inc. and Glitsa American, Inc.
Bill's experience is unique in that he brought forward valuable practical
hands-on information that when teamed with the chemists' knowledge, made him
a major player in developing the new generation of waterborne finishes.
Bill's dream has always been to train wood floor finish contractors to get
the best possible product, a beautiful wood floor. His dream has now become a reality
as he reaches out to fellow contractors through the Floormasters.com.
Floormasters International was founded in 1995 by Bill Price, a third generation floor finish
contractor whose dream was to share hard-earned "tricks of the trade" with fellow contractors.
He learned his craft in apprenticeship with his family and built a reputation for quality work
and integrity. Bill knew that most floor finishers are self taught or learned from someone
who was self taught. However, he didn't fully understand the lack of good generic information
and training for contractors until he worked in the floor finish manufacturing end of the business.
Here he learned that training was key to the future of the wood floor finishing industry and for
contractors to consistently turn out a quality product - a beautiful, custom sanded and finished wood floor.
Bill began by offering Floormasters Sanding & Finishing Seminars for Professionals in several locations in
the Northwest US for professional flooring contractors with hands-on experience. He has since expanded
the seminars across the US and now offers The Floormasters Newsletter, a quarterly newsletter
providing generic product and application information and techniques for wood floor finishers.
Bill also offers consulting services to contractors, distributors, and manufacturers.
Bill says, "My goal is to create solutions. I know, first hand, how disheartening and expensive
it is to have a job fail. There is nothing worse for the floor finish contractor than standing,
watching helplessly, as a newly-finished floor wrinkles. Environmental laws are good for all of
us but when products change and we don't know about it, it makes us look bad as they don't perform
the way we're used to them performing. Education is the key! Staying abreast of the changes and testing, testing, testing!"
